One of those vital partners is the Woodfin Police Department, led by Chief Jacqui K. Boykin. We’re proud to introduce you to our local law enforcement team and encourage you to get to know them better.
Chief Boykin recently shared her philosophy of policing — one rooted in community engagement just as much as enforcement. As she puts it, “Policing is half community engagement and half law enforcement. The more we do on the front end, the less we have to do on the back.”
She also shared a quote that guides the department’s approach, from the father of modern policing, Sir Robert Peel:
“The police are the public, and the public are the police; the police simply being members of the public who are paid to give full time attention to the duties which are incumbent on every citizen in the interests of community welfare and existence.”
This sentiment is reflected in every aspect of the Woodfin Police Department’s work. They serve on behalf of the community — but also with the community. That means your input, involvement, and partnership are key.
In a time when fewer individuals are choosing careers in public service, Chief Boykin remains committed to recruiting officers with a servant’s heart — people who are called to make a positive difference in the communities they serve.

About Chief Jacqui K. Boykin
Chief Boykin brings more than two decades of experience to Woodfin, having served in leadership roles across North Carolina — including Wilson, Knightdale, and most recently as Chief of Police in Zebulon.
She holds a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice from East Carolina University and a Master’s in Public Administration from NC State University. She is a state-certified law enforcement instructor and graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy, where she now serves as President of the North Carolina Chapter of FBI National Academy Associates.
While she’s proud of her professional accomplishments, Chief Boykin is most proud of her two sons — Harlee, a senior at Virginia Tech, and Branson, who works for the City of Wilson Electric Department and shares his mother’s leadership spirit.
